Configuring Data Services

[Table of Contents]

Click on Start, All Programs, Insource, Academy Data Services Configuration.

You will now see an error message concerning the lack of a licence. Press OK.

Click on Download LOK and save it to the desktop.

Ask the client to e-mail it to Insource so that we can generate a key.

Upon receipt of a reply from Insource, please save the e-mail attachment to a location on the hard disk that can be accessed from the computer the installation is being performed on.

In Data Services, click on Upload key, and browse to the location that you saved the key to.

Select the licence key file, and then click OK, followed by OK. You should now see a form which allows you to enter the database details.

In Server, enter the name of the server that the database is on. Do not use “localhost” - please use the actual computer name.

In Database, enter the name of the Data Academy main database.

In Authentication, select SQL Server and use the username and password for the SQL Data Academy login.

Press the Test button. If this results in an error, please verify the settings above are correct and try again.

Press the Install button, and then when prompted to install, press OK.

Set the Start of Fiscal Year to the start of the customer’s fiscal year. For instance, if the fiscal year started on the 2nd of April 2007, then enter 02 April 2007. The purpose of this setting is to allow Data Academy to correctly identify which quarter a particular date is in. For example, in a Dataset with a date field, the customer can filter using “this quarter”.

Set the Log Truncate entry to how many days the log files should be kept. By default, all logs are kept.

Press Apply.

If the customer has not opted to use the e-mail notification feature of Data Academy, please skip the following section regarding email.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING E-MAIL

There are two methods of sending e-mail from Data Academy. First of all is the use of an SMTP server. In this case, the SMTP server must NOT require authentication. For this reason, we recommend enabling the SMTP server on the server Data Services resides on and locking it down to only allow connections from the server machine itself. The customer must set this up themselves if they would like to do it this way - for reference, the general steps to do this are at the end of the Data Academy Documentation. The customer must be aware of what potential risks there are to everything they do. Restricting the access to only allow connections from the local computer will stop any other computer on the network from using the SMTP server for undesirable means e.g. sending out spam.

The other method of sending e-mail is using SQL Server. SQL Server uses Database Mail. This uses a connection to an SMTP server - however, authentication can be used. The limitation with this method is that attachments cannot be sent.

In either case, enter the Accelerator Address. This is the fully qualified URL for where the website is hosted. For instance, http://localhost/dataacademy or http://acomputer/awebsite

If the customer would like to use an SMTP server (must not require authentication) then select .NET and enter the SMTP server details. If you are using a local SMTP server, then enter “localhost” in the SMTP Server box. The “From” address does not need to be valid, but it is useful to set it to a valid e-mail so that bounce backs / replies aren’t lost.

To use Database Mail, the client must set up Database Mail in SQL Management Studio AND in the SQL Server Surface Area Configuration tool. A guide has been included at the end of this document, but remind the customer it is their responsibility to set up the settings. This also means the customer must be aware of what potential risks there are to everything they do.
