Logging On To Data Academy
A Data Academy Warehouse is developed and managed via the "Data Academy" web application. When you install Data Academy, you are prompted for the location, which by default is:
http://SERVER/DataAcademy/
... where "SERVER" is replaced by YOUR server name.
To log on to Data Academy, open Internet Explorer 7, and type this location in the address bar. You will be redirected to the login page, which you may wish to bookmark. To log on for the first time, use the user name "Administrator" with a password of "qqqq". (One of your first jobs should be to change this password!)
Accessing Data Academy Functionality
When you log on to Data Academy, a menu will appear at the top of the screen. Hover your mouse over the top-level menu items to see more detailed options. When you use the menu, you will be redirected away from the page on which you reside. Be careful - any unsaved changes will be lost.
Using Data Academy List-Drill Functionality
Much of the Data Academy UI consists of list-detail forms, which reflect the meta-data used to build your Data Warehouse.
List Forms
List forms consist of a grid, which show a list of the items available, such as Data Loaders or Star Spaces.
Use the
button to add a new item to the list.
Use the
button to edit the selected item.
Use the
button to delete an item.
On some screens you will see a black delete button -
- which is used when removing an item or reference from a list. For example, when removing a Data Academy User from a User Group, we don't want to delete the actual user - just remove the reference!
Detail Forms
Detail forms consist of a number of editable items, such as text inputs, radio buttons, and drop-down lists.
When you are done with your changes, click
to persist your changes and return to the previous list form.
To discard your changes, just click
.
Detail-List Forms
Some detail forms contain additional sub-lists at the bottom, allowing you to drill deeper into Data Academy. Be careful when drilling into these sub-lists - any changes you have made to the "detail" part of the form will be lost unless you save these changes first.
